How to make a Skript
Updated October 7, 2026
Skript is a plugin that runs scripts written in an English-like language: on join:, command /spawn:. It is the quickest way to add small features to a Spigot or Paper server without compiling anything. Scripts are .sk files in plugins/Skript/scripts/.
An example to start from.
Generate this with CodexeStep by step
1.Install Skript
Put the Skript .jar that matches your server version in
plugins/and restart.2.Write the script
Events (
on death:), commands (command /heal:), conditions and effects, indented with tabs or spaces consistently.3.Use variables for data
{balance::%player's uuid%}stores a value per player and survives restarts.4.Reload and read the errors
/sk reload <script>loads it and prints the line of every error.
Add-ons
Some syntax comes from add-ons such as SkBee or skript-reflect. A script that uses them fails to load if the add-on is missing, so say which add-ons your server has.
With Codexe
Describe what the script does. Codexe writes the .sk file and loads it on a real server with Skript before it is Ready, so syntax errors are caught and fixed. You can then try it on a test server.
Questions
Skript or a plugin?
Skript is faster to change and needs no build; a Java plugin is faster at runtime and can do more. Small server features fit Skript well.

“A Skript for Paper 1.21: /daily gives a random reward from a list once every 24 hours per player, shows the time left if used too early, and keeps a streak counter that doubles the reward on day 7.”
