Minecraft plugin ideas, with prompts

Updated October 18, 2026

The best plugin ideas solve something your players actually do every day: getting around, trading, competing, coming back tomorrow. Below are ideas grouped by server type, each with a short example prompt you can use as it is or change. After them, the steps to go from an idea to a plugin running on your server.

Start from this one, or paste any idea from the list.

Step by step

  1. 1.Pick one idea and make it small

Start with the core of the idea: one or two commands and one rule. Extras come later, in the same project.

  2. 2.Write it as a short spec

Server software and version, commands with arguments, permissions, limits, what is saved, what goes in config.yml.

  3. 3.Generate and build it

With Codexe, paste the spec on Create: it writes the plugin, compiles it and repairs build errors before it is Ready.

  4. 4.Play it on a test server

Join a private test server with the plugin installed and try every command as a normal player and as operator.

  5. 5.Adjust and install

Ask for changes in the chat, describing what you saw, then install the .jar in plugins/ and restart.

Survival and SMP

  • Homes with a warmup: "/sethome, /home and /delhome, 3 homes per player, 5 with homes.vip, 3-second warmup that cancels on movement."
  • Grave chests: "On death, items go into a chest at the death spot that only the owner can open for 10 minutes, with coordinates sent in chat."
  • Sleep vote: "Night is skipped when 50% of online players are in bed (configurable), with a bossbar showing the count."
  • Claim protection: "/claim protects the chunk the player stands in, up to 8 chunks, trusted players with /trust <player>."

Economy, prison and skyblock

  • Sell wand: "Right-clicking a chest with the sell wand sells its contents at prices from config.yml through Vault."
  • Player shops in a GUI: "/ah sell <price> lists the item in hand, /ah opens a paged GUI, 5% tax, listings expire after 48 hours."
  • Mine reset: "Mines defined with two corners refill every 15 minutes with weighted blocks, with a chat warning 30 seconds before."
  • Daily rewards: "/daily opens a 7-day calendar GUI, each day a configurable reward, a missed day resets the streak."

Minigames and PvP

  • Spleef: "Arena set with /spleef setarena, the floor breaks when hit with a shovel, last player standing wins, wins saved per player."
  • King of the Hill: "Standing in a region for 60 seconds total wins, a bossbar shows the leader, the event starts with /koth start."
  • Kill streaks: "Every 5 kills without dying broadcasts a message and gives a configurable reward, the streak shows in the tab list."

RPG and roleplay

  • Custom items with abilities: "A Frost Sword that slows the target for 2 seconds, a cooldown of 10 seconds, given with /rpgitem give."
  • Simple quests: "Kill 20 zombies or mine 64 iron ore, progress in a scoreboard, rewards from config.yml, /quests shows active quests."
  • Levels and skills: "Mining, combat and farming XP, levels unlock small bonuses, /skills opens a GUI with progress bars."

Networks and communities

  • Network staff chat (Velocity or BungeeCord): "/sc <message> reaches staff on every backend server, with the server name in front."
  • Maintenance mode: "/maintenance on kicks everyone without maintenance.bypass and shows a custom MOTD on the server list."
  • Discord link: "A discord.py bot with /status showing online players and a channel message when the server goes online or offline."

Questions

Which idea should I start with?

The one your players would use daily. Homes, daily rewards and grave chests are small, useful and easy to test.

Can I combine several ideas in one plugin?

Yes, but build and test one feature first, then add the next in the same project chat. Large requests are harder to check in one go.

Do these ideas need other plugins?

Economy ideas need Vault and an economy plugin; say so in the request. On a Codexe test server, plugins listed as dependencies are installed for you.

Turn an idea into a plugin

This prompt opens ready to send:

“A Paper 1.21.4 plugin called GraveChests: on death the player's items go into a chest at the death location that only the owner can open for 10 minutes, coordinates sent in chat, the chest disappears when empty, all times and messages in config.yml.”
