How to make a Discord bot without coding
Updated October 18, 2026
A Discord bot is a small program that connects to Discord with a token and answers slash commands, reacts to new members or moderates messages. You can get one without writing code: create the bot in Discord's developer portal, describe what it should do, and let Codexe write it in Python (discord.py) or Node.js (discord.js). You try it with your own token before you host it.
Change the commands to what your server needs.
Generate this with CodexeStep by step
1.Create the bot in Discord
In the Discord developer portal, create an application, open Bot and copy the token. Treat it like a password.
2.Choose Python or Node.js
Either works. Pick the one your host supports, or the one a friend who may help you later knows.
3.Describe the commands and events
Each slash command with its options and who may use it, the events it reacts to (new members, messages, reactions) and where it stores data.
4.Let Codexe write it
Codexe writes the complete bot project with slash commands. The token is read from the
DISCORD_TOKENenvironment variable and never written into the code.5.Test-run it in Codexe
In the bot's Host panel, paste your token (stored encrypted, and you can delete it), press Start and try the commands in your Discord server while you watch the console.
6.Invite it to your server
Generate an invite link in the developer portal with the
botandapplications.commandsscopes and the permissions the bot needs.7.Host it for real
Download the ZIP, install the dependencies (
pip install -r requirements.txtornpm install), setDISCORD_TOKENand start it on a machine that is always on.
What to describe
- Slash commands: names, options, and who can use them (everyone, a role, members with a permission such as Moderate Members).
- Events: welcome messages, auto-roles, reaction roles, logging deleted messages.
- Storage: a JSON file or SQLite for warnings, levels or settings.
- Intents: reading message content and member lists are privileged intents you switch on in the developer portal; say which ones you are willing to enable.
- External APIs: for example a Minecraft server status ping, with the address in a config file.
Example description
"A discord.py bot with slash commands. /warn <user> <reason> stores the warning in SQLite and sends the user a DM. /warnings <user> lists warnings with dates. /timeout <user> <minutes> <reason> applies a Discord timeout. Only members with Moderate Members can use them. Every action is logged to a channel chosen with /setlog. New members get the Member role and a welcome message in #welcome."
Test runs inside Codexe
The Host panel is for trying the bot, not for running it all the time. On every plan a session stops after 30 minutes and one bot runs at a time per account. The runtime per rolling 24 hours depends on the plan:
| Plan | Runtime per 24 hours |
|---|---|
| Free | 15 minutes |
| Pro | 4 hours |
| Business | 12 hours |
| Enterprise | 24 hours |
Common problems
- Slash commands do not appear: global commands can take up to an hour to sync; commands synced to one server appear at once.
- The bot is online but ignores messages: a privileged intent is not enabled in the developer portal.
- "The application did not respond": the command took more than 3 seconds without deferring. Ask the chat to defer the response.
Questions
Is the bot checked before I get it?
Discord bots are not build-verified: Ready means the code was generated. Use the test run in the Host panel to check it with your token.
Can Codexe host my bot permanently?
No, the Host panel is a test environment with daily limits. For a bot that is always online, run it on a VPS, a bot host or a computer that stays on.
Is it free?
Generating and test-running are free on the free plan, within its tokens and 15 minutes of bot runtime a day. Downloading the ZIP needs a plan or a download pack.
Describe your bot
This prompt opens ready to send:
“A discord.py bot with slash commands: /warn stores a warning in SQLite and DMs the user, /warnings lists a user's warnings with dates, /timeout applies a Discord timeout for a number of minutes, only members with Moderate Members can use them, every action logged to a channel set with /setlog, new members get the Member role and a welcome message.”
