Which plans include web search, the project switch, which models can search, what it costs, and why Codexe sometimes says it can't open a link.

With web search, the AI can look things up while it works: a library's latest version, an API change, the page behind a link you paste.

All four conditions must be true:

  1. Your plan includes it: Business or Enterprise (compare plans).
  2. The project's switch is on: Settings → Tools → Web search. It's on by default for projects created on Business or Enterprise, and you can switch it off per project.
  3. The model supports it: the GPT-6 models (Luna, Sol, Astra) and GPT-5.5 Pro (see Models). Claude, Grok and DeepSeek models don't search.
  4. Codexe hasn't temporarily disabled it (a service-wide switch used only in an emergency).

If any condition is missing, the AI simply works without the web.

#What it costs

Each search the model actually completes adds 25,000 tokens to that request (see how tokens are counted). Searches that fail or never run aren't charged, and the model only searches when it decides a search is useful. Codexe's own internal fix-up steps never add search charges to your bill.

When web search isn't available, the AI is instructed to say so rather than pretend. If you paste a URL, it tells you it can't open the page and asks you to paste the relevant part. It won't invent what a page says. The reply mentions the Business plan only when your plan is the reason, or the project setting when that's switched off.

On Free and Pro the web search switch isn't available, and trying to enable it is refused. Everything else works the same. Paste documentation or examples straight into your request if the AI needs them.
