Web search unavailable
Why the web search option is missing or locked, why Codexe says it can't open a link, and what to do instead.

#Why can't Codexe open this URL?
The AI only uses the web when all of these are true (see Web search):

When search isn't available, the AI tells you it can't open the page rather than guessing what's on it.
What to do: paste the relevant part of the page (API docs, a changelog, an example) into your message. That's often better anyway, because the AI gets exactly the part you care about.
#Why is the web search setting locked?
On Free and Pro, the setting can't be enabled; the server refuses it. Upgrade to Business to use it.
#I'm on Business but it doesn't search
- Check Settings → Tools → Web search is on for that project.
- Check the project's model is a GPT-6 or GPT-5.5 Pro model.
- The AI searches only when it decides it's useful. To make sure, ask explicitly: "Look up the latest version of … before choosing the dependency."
