Credits and tokens
How Codexe counts usage in tokens: what each action costs, how the free daily refill works, what Codexe pays for, and when tokens are given back.

Codexe measures usage in tokens, the units AI models read and write. Your balance is shown in tokens throughout the app (a few dashboard labels say "credits"; it's the same balance).

Bigger outputs, stronger models and higher reasoning effort cost more. The Create page shows an estimate before you generate, and each chat message shows what it cost.
#Estimate, then settle
When you send a request, Codexe reserves an estimate. When the model finishes, the cost is settled against what it actually used: the difference is returned to you, or a small extra is charged if the reply was longer than estimated. You never pay for more than the model actually used (plus any tool charges).
#The free daily allowance
On the Free plan you have up to 50,000 tokens:
- New accounts start with 50,000 (plus a one-time 2,500 for linking Discord or GitHub).
- Once 24 hours have passed since your last top-up, your balance is topped back up to 50,000. It isn't added on top: if you still have 30,000, you go back to 50,000, not to 80,000.
- The top-up happens the next time you open Codexe after the 24 hours have passed. There's no fixed time of day.
- Tokens from token packs, rewards and badges sit on top: a balance above 50,000 is never reduced by the refill.
The dashboard shows when your next refill is due whenever you're below the cap. Codexe may also send a reminder email when your tokens are back (you can switch it off in email preferences).

Pro and Business get their allowance when the subscription starts and again at each renewal (monthly or yearly). See Plans and Subscriptions.
#Low-balance warnings
On the Free plan a banner warns you at 25% and 10% of your daily allowance. When a request needs more tokens than you have, Codexe doesn't start it (you never get a half-generated project because you ran out). You can wait for the refill, buy a token pack or upgrade.

#When tokens are given back
If a project's first generation delivers nothing usable because of a problem on Codexe's side, the tokens it used are restored automatically. See Credit restoration, and the Billing FAQ for payment questions.
